Compensators are attachments with baffles that redirect muzzle gas in an effort to combat recoil or drift. It does this by redirecting the gases in the opposing direction of weapon drift and recoil so that the gas counteracts the action of the weapon. This somewhat rare attachment has no downsides, thus it is a sought-after attachment, particularly for guns with strong recoil.
- The compensator is based on the Primary Weapon Systems FSC556 compensator. In reality, the FSC556 is both a compensator and flash suppressor.
- When attached to the AKM and Beryl M762, the compensator takes on the appearance of the muzzle brake on the AK-74.
- When attached to certain DMRs the compensator takes on the appearance of the model used for the sniper rifles.
- In reality, most compensators increase stability and decrease recoil at the cost of increasing the size of the muzzle blast and sound pressure of the gunshot. Linear compensators do not suffer from these issues as they redirect the high pressure gas forward at a reduced velocity.
