Survivor of the Infamous Hosan Prison Riot |
Kangjae Ma is a character in the lore of BATTLEGROUNDS.
Biography[]
In 1983 Kangjae Ma was serving a sentence in Taego’s Hosan prison. An executioner for the South Korean mob, Ma had gotten sloppy with a car bomb. Got the wrong man killed. A price was put on his head.
Hosan’s guards, paid off by a crime syndicate, unlocked every cell in the notorious C-block. With the flip of a switch, a cadre of murderers, arsonists, and mobsters, were set loose. They had all been promised the same thing: Kill Ma and gain their freedom and a position of power in the syndicate. In hindsight, maybe not the best plan… Worried someone else would steal their prize, the inmates quickly turned on each other.
The result was an almost comically bloody free-for-all. Ma survived and managed to escape the prison, fleeing with a single copy of the prison’s closed-circuit TV security footage. Sure, it was grainy. And black and white. But when Ma fought off an entire cellblock full of attackers… it was glorious. Ma had no idea what this one tape would lead to…
