The HK416, (referred to as the M416 in-game) is an assault rifle/carbine type weapon in BATTLEGROUNDS. A tactical rifle based on the discontinued XM8-project as an improvement of both the M16/AR-15 and the M4 Carbine, it integrates the short-stroke gas piston system from the G36 rifle for less recoil and increased reliability. Adopted by the militaries of several countries across the world, in BATTLEGROUNDS it proves very popular due to the number of attachments it can accept, allowing a great amount of flexibility.
Summary
Compared to the other 5.56mm assault rifles, in its unmodified state the M416 is fairly similar to the others besides its slightly faster rate of fire compared to the SCAR-L, however its strong points are the fact that it can accept the most modifications of any of the assault rifles, accepting muzzle, magazine, stock, lower and upper rail attachments, as well has having exceptional stability, only bested by the AUG. A fully modified M416 is therefore highly sought after as its very low recoil allows for controllable fully automatic fire, even with a 4x ACOG Scope attached.
The M416 will deal maximum damage out to 60 meters, with damage reaching a minimum at 445 meters.

Update #47 (Season 9 - Update 9.2)
We are constantly listening to your feedback and discussing community sentiment internally. After careful review, we agree with many of you that the Beryl adjustment with 9.1 update wasn't effective enough at reducing the strength of the Beryl in relation to other ARs and have made the following follow up adjustments this patch:
- To reduce the difference in reload speed of Beryl with M416, SCAR-L, QBZ, G36C following adjustments were made.
- Magazine reload times of M416, SCAR-L, QBZ, G36C has been decreased by 10%.

Update #31 (Season 4 - Update 4.1)
- Rebalanced AR's so none is the “objective” best—the power differential between each is now reduced, but each brings advantages to different situations.

Trivia
- The M416 is modeled on the 14.5 inch barrel variant of the HK416. While this gun's designation as M416 rather than HK416 would imply service usage within the U.S. military, this is often done in video games to avoid copyright issues.
- The fire selector switch has settings for safe, semi-auto and full-auto represented as NO PEW, PEW and PEW PEW PEW respectively.
- In the context of PUBG, this gun is often referred to as an M4 (i.e. Colt M4 Carbine) even though both rifles have very little in common, although this is purely for simplicity and speed.
- It's share the iron sight with AUG, and share the animations for SCAR-L and M16A4.
