During the start of development of PUBG, 1st person was optional. It was all based around the 3rd person aspect, but players didn't like that. As of the July 2017 update, Bluehole added 1st person only servers (where 3rd person isn't allowed).

During the start development of PUBG, 3rd person was the core aspect of the game. Players commonly who play in this game category 'lack skill' and 'noncompetitive' based on what other big players (like YouTuber's/Streamers) state just because how much of advantage you have against another player.

You can peek around corners, over walls, etc without the enemy knowing you're there.
